That this signifies perpetually in the church, is evident from the signification of "generations," when said of the sons of Israel, as being succession in the church; for by the "sons of Israel" is signified the church, and by "generations" the succession in it. By "generations" are also signified spiritual generations, which are those of faith and love, thus which are of the church; and by "to generations" is also signified what is perpetual, thus likewise what is successive.
